Its never to young to discern your vocation, -the priesthood or married life- but, you must be near 18 years old to enter seminary. Many Men join seminary right out of high school.
How do I tell my parents I want to be a priest?
Tell them that this is what you think God is calling you to do. It’s important to remind them that this is a discernment process and just because you go to seminary does not necessarily mean you will be a priest.
I’ve always thought you were priest material
It is always important to remember that you are going to seminary to discern your call to the priesthood. This does not mean you are going to become a priest. You may decide, with God’s help, that He is in fact not calling you to the priesthood. Discernment is a process and it takes many years and you must be open to where God is calling you, whether that is to the priesthood or not. Even if you go to seminary and you discern God is not calling you it was not a waste of time! Your time in seminary will make you a better man, help you grow closer to Christ, and give you the necessary skills to help spread the Gospel.
I want my son to have a successful career
What does it profit him to gain the whole world but lose his soul. I want him to do what God wants and created him for. I never push my children toward a career but a vocation, priesthood is a vocation and a high calling, others are called to be doctors or janitors, but >all are called to a vocation not a “career” The difference is “what do I want” vs “How can I serve in the way God intended”. His successful “career” as a priest can help save souls, what truly matters besides that?
The Father "What-a-waste" I think you are too handsome or charming to be a priest?
God asks us to give Him our first fruits not what is left over or what is undesirable. Jesus himself was the “Lamb without blemish”.
